DevOps and on-call

Paged at night? Your session is where you left it.

GoTerm keeps your SSH sessions running on its gateway, not on your laptop. Open any browser, sign in, and you’re back in the terminal you left, with everything it printed while you were away.

Personal is $5 a month. Teams is $35 a month for 5 people.

Sound familiar?

Where on-call nights lose time

  • Your laptop is somewhere else

The alert comes in at dinner or on the train. Your keys, your SSH config and your open sessions are on a laptop at home.

  • The connection drops mid-job

A migration runs for forty minutes. The Wi-Fi blinks once, and the job dies with your SSH session.

  • Dashboards on private addresses

Grafana and the admin pages only open from inside the network, on a computer that’s set up for it. At 2 a.m., that’s never the one you have.

How GoTerm helps

Less to fix before the fix

Everything you need for a night on call is already in your browser: your hosts, your team’s keys, and the sessions you left open.

Sessions that keep running

Pick up exactly where you left off

Sessions live on GoTerm’s gateway. Start a deploy at your desk, close the lid, and reattach from any browser. What it printed while you were away is replayed when you come back.

  • Reattach from any browser, on any computer
  • A dropped connection doesn’t end the job
  • You decide when a session ends, and idle ones close on their own

Tabs and split panes

The log on one side, the fix on the other

Tail the API’s log in one pane while you check the cluster in the next. Each host can have its own colors, so production never looks like staging.

  • Split right or down, or drag a tab beside another
  • Jump hosts and keys come with the host, not your laptop
  • A real terminal: vim, tmux, htop and kubectl work as usual
Two terminals side by side in GoTerm: the API’s log on web-01, and kubectl get pods on k8s-ctl with one pod in CrashLoopBackOff

Web tabs

Open Grafana securely, from any browser

If one of your servers can reach a dashboard or a test site, GoTerm opens it in a browser tab, carried inside the SSH connection you already have. Nothing new is opened to the internet, and there’s no tunnel to set up on whatever computer you have.

  • Access is checked on every request
  • Lose access to the host and the tab closes with it
  • Included from the Personal plan up

Live sharing

Bring in a teammate in one click

Share the session with whoever knows the service best. They watch your terminal live from their own browser, and they type only if you let them.

  • Read-only is enforced by the gateway, not hidden in the page
  • See who is in the session, from a browser or the desktop app
  • Every share and every join is in the audit log

A night on call

From the page to the fix in 14 minutes

One incident, step by step. The times are an example; every step is something GoTerm does today.

  1. 02:07

    The page

The alert reaches your phone. Your laptop is at home.

  2. 02:09

    Any browser

You sign in on the nearest computer. Your hosts and your team’s keys are already there.

  3. 02:10

    Same session

The session from the evening’s deploy is still open, with every error it printed since.

  4. 02:13

    A second pair of eyes

You share it with the service’s owner, who watches from their own laptop.

  5. 02:21

    Rolled back

The pods come back up and you close the tab. The audit log has who did what.

The plan that fits

Teams, for the whole rotation

Teams gives 5 people one set of shared hosts and keys, and live sharing to pull each other into a session. Each extra person is $10 a month.

On call alone? Personal has the web terminal, sessions that keep running and web tabs, for $5 a month.

Compare all plans

Prices are in US dollars and billed monthly. VAT or sales tax is added at checkout where it applies.

For teams

Teams

$35per month

5 seats included. Extra seats are $10 a month each.

Work on the same servers together.

Start with Teams
  • Everything in Personal
  • Teams with their own admins, hosts and keys
  • Live session sharing, read-only or read-write
  • Session recording, kept up to 90 days
  • Access grants, guests and a connection log
  • Connector for private networks

Questions from on-call teams

Do my sessions keep running if I close the browser?

Yes. A session runs on GoTerm’s gateway until you end it or it sits idle for too long. Open it again from any browser and what it printed while you were away is replayed.

Can I go through our bastion or jump host?

Yes. Save the jump host once with each host, as with ssh -J, and GoTerm connects through it. The servers behind it never need to face the internet.

Does a teammate I share with get my keys?

No. They see the terminal, and they type only if you allow it. Keys stay sealed on GoTerm’s servers and are never shown to the people you share with.

Can I open Grafana and other private dashboards?

Yes, with web tabs. GoTerm opens the page in a browser tab through the SSH connection to a host that can reach it. Web tabs come with every paid plan.
